Course program
An in-depth 1-day course designed as a follow-up to our introductory course. This course focusses in detail on developing effective support strategies and includes a detailed investigation of issues relating to sensory integration. It allows scope for participants to explore in detail issues specific to the person or people they support.
Course Contents:
* Ways to help: how to support people with a range of common characteristics
* Anxiety and autism
* Sensory integration
* Sensory sensitivities and behaviour
* Support strategies
* Next steps: action planning for improvement/enhancement of support
On completion of the training, each participant will be able to:
* Describe common characteristics of autism and relevant strategies for effective support
* Describe the link between autism and anxiety
* Describe how anxiety can effect behaviour and strategies for reducing anxiety
* Describe the possible effects of impairments relating to sensory integration
* Describe how sensory sensitivities might effect behaviour
* Describe a range of support strategies relating to sensory issues
* Participate in developing a plan of action aimed at developing appropriate person centred support
