Popular Colour Looks for Graders (DVR 300)

Popular Colour Looks for Graders (DVR 300)

Course Outline

Lesson 1
Bleach Bypass	A traditional film lab process used on 3 Kings, Saving private Ryan and Evita.

Lesson 2
Orange and Teal Used recently in movies like Transformers, Harry Potter and heaps of commercials. These colours complement each other so work very well together

Lesson 3
When is a look too much?	How do we know if our grade is over the top, or wrong for the type of show we are working on.

Lesson 4
Black and White	B/W is not just a case of removing the saturation, there are ways to improve the B/W look by grading the colours underneath the de-saturation

Lesson 5
Cross Process	Another famous Lab process. I used to see lots of cross process material when I worked in Soho. It involved processing negative film in a positive bath. The results were very unpredictable. ‘Domino’ directed by Tony Scott is a good reference of the cross process technique.

Lesson 6
What makes a great colourist?	Thoughts on all the things that go into making a great grader.

Lesson 7
Shindlers look	We often use Schindlers list as a reference for a single colour sitting in a black and white picture. We will explore ways of painting back colors.

Lesson 8
Exploring the correct way to approach a grade
How many looks should I offer up and what happens if they don’t like my look?

Lesson 9
Warren’s spot colours
A process our trainer uses to add life to otherwise bland pictures. Utilises the different Resolve shapes.

Lesson 10
Grads v Vignettes	This lesson explains the difference between the two. How heavy should that Black grad be in the sky?

Lesson 11
Technicolor 2 Strip process	Used to great effect in Martin Scorsese ‘The Aviator’. How to reproduce it digitally with Resolve.
Popular Colour Looks for Graders (DVR 300) This course is on Course For Me.
