Black and White B/W is not just a case of removing the saturation, there are ways to improve the B/W look by grading the colours underneath the de-saturation

Students learn to use DV cameras and DSLR's with ancillary equipment for capture of high definition footage and digital audio. Digital editing is learned utilising Final Cut Pro. Crews are formed for projects so that students gain experience in storyboarding, location research, scripting, camera operations, direction and editing. They will consider story telling conventions such as narration and sound/image interplay so as to make decisions on telling their own stories.

The course also covers writing proposals, budgeting and scheduling. Projects may include a music video, a commercial, a documentary, a drama or an experimental piece.

A practical course for beginners to learn how to shoot and edit digital video, get the best results from a video camera and discover what makes moving images successful. Over five sessions, a combination of practical seminars, creative exercises, film screenings and group discussion introduce students to the fundamentals of video production and editing using Apple Final Cut Pro X. Suitable for absolute beginners or for individuals with some prior experience wishing to develop skills, the course covers basic technical skills such as camera operation and software editing and will foster an understanding of cinematic language to help you to develop a narrative, plan a shoot and produce a short fiction or documentary film.

NB. You will need your own video camera to do the course (this can include a Mobile Phone or DSLR with video function or Flip camera).
