It is a legal requirement in England and Wales that anyone who sells alcohol, or authorises the sale of alcohol, to the public, must be a personal licence holder.<br />
<br />
Anyone wishing to obtain a personal licence must produce proof that they hold a licensing qualification such as the BIIAB APLH certificate.<br />
<br />
How long is the training course?<br />
<br />
Our APLH qualification is designed in such a way that it can be delivered and examined in one day. The course comprises a mixture of self-study and teaching. <br />
<br />
At the end of the course, delegates will take a short multiple-choice examination comprising with 40 questions covering all aspects of the law and social responsibilities in relation to the sale of alcohol to the public.<br />

<description><![CDATA[This qualification replaces the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders as of 1st April 2011. Under the Licensing Act 2003, anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol will have to hold a personal licence. In order to qualify for a personal licence, an applicant must hold a licensing qualification, which is Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) accredited, and Government approved. This qualification is both QCA accredited and Government approved, and has been specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003. The qualification is nationally recognised and is designed for anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol in licensed premises including:<br />

 Pubs &amp; bars Sports and Social Clubs<br />
 Hotels and restaurants,<br />
 Nightclubs<br />
 Entertainment establishments<br />
 Off-licences,<br />
 Supermarkets and convenience stores<br />
 Any other venue where alcohol is sold<br />

Introduction<br />

The HABC Award for Scottish Personal Licence Holders (On and Off Sales) is a qualification aimed at anyone working in or preparing to work in any industry that involves the retail sale of alcohol.<br />
<br />
It is a prerequisite for anyone who wishes to hold a personal licence.<br />
<br />
The qualification is based on the training specification drawn up by the National Licensing Forum for those involved in the retail sale of alcohol (on and off sales).<br />
<br />
This specification enables learners to meet the requirements of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.<br />
<br />
Persons gaining this qualification will be aware of the requirements of Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 and the specific duties of a personal licence holder in relation to the law.<br />
<br />
It is a legal requirement for anyone wishing to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol by retail to be a personal licence holder, this includes persons who have been made responsible for authorising the retail sale of alcohol within licensed retail premises on an occasional basis.<br />
<br />
Qualification Details<br />
<br />
The HABC Award for Scottish Personal Licence Holders (On and Off Sales) has been accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).<br />
<br />
Entry Guidance<br />
<br />
There are no prerequisites for this qualification. However, it is advised that candidates have a level of literacy and English that enables them to communicate effectively. For this qualification, this requirement would be the equivalent to the Communication Core Skill at SCQF level 5.<br />
<br />
This qualification is approved for delivery to the age ranges 18+. A Personal Licence may not be applied for until the age of 18<br />
