Course program

Course Outline:
The Dealing with Challenging Behaviour’s course will enable learners to explore and understand the underlying causes of conflict in the workplace. It will inform them of a variety of ways of dealing with aggressive and hostile behaviour encountered by them or others. The course is based on a non-physical intervention model and will focus on the need for a person-centred and strengths-based approach to support the well being of individuals with challenging behaviour.

The course will highlight the need to protect the individual with challenging behaviour, from abuse, injury or harm and also to protect others around them. This will include exploring possible ways of preventing or defusing aggression and the actions to be taken to minimise repeat episode, including the importance of positive communication.

Course Objectives:
• Define what is meant by the terms 'anger' and 'challenging behaviour
• Explain the signs of anger and forms of challenging behaviour
• Explain how anger is triggered
• Explain the causes of challenging behaviour
• Explain how to manage and diffuse anger
