Course Outline:
This course will enable students to understand the key issues that can arise during emergency situations.
First aid is the first help or care that a suddenly sick or injured person receives. It is given as soon as
possible after an accident or an illness. This immediate help prior to the arrival of the emergency services
can mean the difference between life and death or at the very least can affect recovery.
During the course
students are taught:
• Health and safety (first aid) regulations
• Managing an incident
• The priorities of first aid
• Treatment of an unconscious casualty
• Resuscitation
• Burns and scalds
• Fracture management
Course Objectives:
The course is predominantly practical hands on training. The emphasis being to ensure that upon
completion of the course, students will be both competent and confident dealing with accidents and
injuries in the workplace. Learners will gain a clear understanding of basic life saving first aid and workplace
health and safety regulations.
• Choking
• Seizures
• Wounds, bleeding and shock
• Common workplace injuries
• Accident reporting
• First aid kits
