Course program

Working with Wax for Casting

Tutor: Yuki Sasakura

This course is suitable for students with intermediate jewellery making skills, having completed a minimum of 2 beginners courses.

Course Aims:The course aims to introduce and develop the practical skills we use for working precious materials in contemporary jewellery making. Students are encouraged to keep a sketchbook to record ideas and experiences, to inform the design process.

Course details: This course will assist you on an one-to-one basis, providing the tutoring, tools and equipment required to achieve your personal objectives. You will have the opportunity to improve existing skills, also developing new skills by exploring new techniques. As the course progresses you can end up producing rings, bangles and brooches, experimental jewellery, art pieces etc. In addition, throughout these courses I introduce a new theme or technique to the group, to stimulate new ways of working.

Theme: Wax models for casting. The course will focus on aspects of making models for casting. The first project will explore how to design for repeat production - and how to make your model suitable for a mold to be made from it. The second project will look at ways to work with wax to create one-off items for lost wax casting.

Students will have an opportunity towards the end of the term to extend their experience with casting techniques

Due to the unpredictable rise in the costs of all metals, you will be advised on the purchase of materials suitable for this course.

If you would like to have your work hallmarked with the Flux Studios hallmark this can also be arranged at cost price.
