Course program

Interpersonal skills affect every aspect of working life. Beyond your technical or professional ability, much of your success depends directly on the impact you make on other people.

This one day course will help to increase your self-awareness and improve the way you relate to and communicate with others, so that you achieve more positive outcomes. It will also give you the opportunity to increase skills and confidence when faced with interpersonal conflict or other situations where you feel under pressure or need to influence others e.g. at meetings.

Course Objectives

•To discuss the meaning of interpersonal communication and assess current strengths and areas for development
•To practise and develop a range of interpersonal skills relevant to work situations
•To explore different communication styles and develop assertiveness skills and techniques
•To consider strategies for handling interpersonal conflict with a view to improving communication, building better relationships and achieving best outcomes

•Exploring the significance of interpersonal skills in the work context
•Considering a model of interpersonal communication
•Developing better listening skills and recognising the power of questions
•Understanding the importance of rapport and non-verbal communication
•Introduction to emotional intelligence (EI) and assessing your own EI
•Impact of your emotions and learning to control them
•Looking at different communication styles and their effects on interpersonal relations
•Recognising own style and how it is likely to affect others
•Choosing your behaviour and using assertiveness techniques in different situations
•Strategies for dealing with interpersonal conflict
•Assessing your conflict handling style along with the likely impact
