| Prepares for: | This qualification is appropriate for all new entrants to teaching in the lifelong learning sector, or for those who are required to achieve a recognised teaching status as defined in the New Overarching Professional Standards for Teachers, Tutors and Trainers in the Lifelong Learning Sector. This qualification will be taken by all teachers, in a full or associated role. |

| Requirements: | From September 2010, all new entrants to teaching in the FE sector are required to complete a new award which will prepare them to teach. This new level 3 qualification is called Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS for short.) PTLLS is mandatory for any new teacher who teaches publicly funded provision and since 2010 all those in receipt of government funding who teach have to be qualified. A teacher is any trainer, assessor, or member of staff who delivers learning to one or more learners. This can be in a classroom or at the employers’ premises and includes the running of group inductions or the provision of underpinning knowledge for NVQs. |

This is a one unit qualification with five core sections.
Section 1: Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
Section 2: Understand teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
Section 3: Demonstrate session planning skills
Section 4: Understand how to deliver inclusive session which motivate learners
Section 5: Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.
