This course is the new Diploma in Personal Training course which runs for 283 hours. On the new QCF Framework this course consists of at least 4 mandatory units. Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise, Applying the Principles of Nutrition as part of a Personal Training Programme, Programming Personal Training with Clients, and Delivering Personal Training Sessions. There are also 3 addtional units in Business Skills, Sports Conditioning and Outdoor Fitness.

The course is taught via blended learning which means it is a mixture of teaching days and self/online study. There will be 6 teaching days spread out over 15 weeks. On the teaching days candidates will be taught a mixture of theory and practical. Each learner gets a personal tutor who communicates with them throughout the course and learners can interact with each other via the online learning environment. The online learning environment is an excellent study tool as it has lots of usfel web links, video presentations, quizes and other tasks to do.

The course is assessed via coursework, a multiple choice theory paper, practical examination and worksheets.

Course location

Olympus Training

Olympus Training delivers over 30 health and fitness courses of different formats and different types. We currently run courses in London, Liverpool, Norwich, Ipswich, Thetford, and on-line. With any Olympus course there are certain aspects that which are standard whatever is studied;

There will be an online environment for every course. This is a place where the learner can log onto 24 hours a day 7 days a week and find useful resources to learn such as quizzes, podcasts and Powerpoints.

Learners will get a personal tutor. This person is the point of contact and will guide the learner through a course, they will have tutorials with the learner to go over different aspects of the course. If need be they will have several tutorials with the learner to make sure they are on track. The learner can also contact their tutor if you have any queries/problems

The learner will receive course materials to study from this usually comes in the format of books and study guides.


There are four main ways that a course may be delivered;

Online :- This means the majority of the study will be through the online learning environment. The main advantage of online learning is that the learner can start and finish whenever they like, it just depends on how many hours they can commit to the course each week.

Blended :- Blended learning is a mixture of face to face teaching and online learning. On a teaching day the learner will be taught by an Olympus tutor. These days are normally a mixture of theory and practical so the learner is likely to take part in exercise during the day.

Short courses have less guided learning hours and are usually completed over 1 or 2 days. Olympus short courses usually have some pre reading or online learning to do before the teaching day to ensure as much practical as possible can be done

Direct courses mean direct teaching so all of the learning is face to face teaching. If a course is direct it is usually quite short e.g. 6 weeks. It is now quite rare to have a completely direct course as we always use the online environment to further aid learning.

Students will be working towards a Central YMCA Qualification (CYQ).
