What you will study

e-type is the quick and easy way to learn to touch-type with ten fingers. You are guided through the course of ten comprehensive and enjoyable lessons in a planned and logical sequence which takes you on the shortest path to learning.

How you will learn

You will be assigned your own unique Logon to access the Online e-type Courseware. Each self-paced lesson builds on the skills learned in previous lessons and at each step you are encouraged and motivated to continue. The course alternates between speed practice and accuracy lessons to improve skills in both areas.

We recommend that you work for around half an hour to an hour a day over a period of 20 days or more. It is best to try to use the course each day during this period rather than have long gaps of several days' inactivity between each session.

How you will be assessed

In-built reporting and assessment tools enable an accurate snapshot of your progress to be obtained at any time.

You will need to come into College to sit your Assessment and your final test(s). When your tutor is satisfied that you have reached the minimum standard to pass, you will come into College to sit an Assessment test which will indicate whether or not you are ready to take a test for real. The e-type tests consist of five-minute examinations which measure the speed and accuracy of your typing. Marking is electronic so you will be presented with your result on-screen immediately after completion of the test.
There are 3 grades (Bronze, Silver and Gold) for the e-type qualification and these are based on typing speed. There are 3 tests available for each candidate.

Attendance

You will attend an Induction session at the College where you will enrol and be assigned your unique Logon to access the e-type Online Courseware. You will also be introduced to your online tutor. You will have up to 12 weeks to complete Level 1 or up to 14 weeks to complete Level 2. If you complete Level 1 and wish to progress to Level 2, you will pay the tuition fee again and this will give you access to the course for a further 14 weeks.

You will also attend the College to sit your test(s) in the presence of a BCS registered invigilator.

Further study

The e-type keyboarding course will allow you to gain a recognised certificate and will help you to become a more efficient PC user.

The course will enable you to progress onto other ICT qualifications as you will gain speed, accuracy and confidence.

Career opportunities

Nowadays it's not just secretaries who use keyboards. If you're involved in using a computer for data entry, writing emails, working on spreadsheets, internet research or customer correspondence, learning to touch-type will make your faster and more accurate and give you an advantage over other candidates when you apply for jobs.

For employers, the e-type keyboarding course provides the solution for all keyboarding training requirements, creating a more efficient workforce that can save the organisation time and money.

Wakefield College

The city of Wakefield sits at the heart of West Yorkshire, and at the heart of the Wakefield district is Wakefield College, the district’s largest college.

Wakefield College is the largest college in the District and has an impressive track record, having provided education and training in Wakefield and its surrounding area since 1868. Today, the College has its base in three major areas as well as delivering learning in community settings all over the district.

Our College is committed to working in partnership with local schools, employers and learning providers to transform learning, attainment, achievement and progression across the district. We have good relationships with schools across the Wakefield district and the College has a broad mix of former pupils from across the region.

The College is home to almost 15,000 students, of all ages and abilities, studying a broad range of courses, from pre-entry level through to higher education and professional qualifications.

Wakefield College plays a leading role in regional regeneration, perfectly illustrated by our new state of- the-art learning facility - the skillsXchange - at Glasshoughton, replacing the College’s Whitwood Campus and offering skills for employability locally and regionally. Redevelopment of the Wakefield Campus in the city centre is also underway and will bring a modern, vibrant learning environment to the heart of the city without affecting the College’s delivery.

Ofsted inspected our College in May 2010 and the Inspection report made great reading for our staff and for our students. The report said that Wakefield College is rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ in 22 of the 23 areas in which it was assessed, and praised the College for its “outstanding approach to working with partners, safeguarding, and equality and diversity.”

A level pass rates have been above 95% for the past six years and were also described as “Outstanding’.

Inspectors further complimented the College for its outstanding support for learners to improve their economic and social well-being and for the highly effective action it takes to prepare learners for employment and progression to higher education.

The College’s ICT provision was also assessed with the inspection team looking at both full and part-time provision at foundation, intermediate and advanced level. Overall, the area achieved a grade one, the highest possible, with inspectors describing outcomes for learners as ‘Outstanding’.

The promotion of safeguarding was also rated ‘Outstanding’ as was the promotion of equality and diversity. Ofsted concluded that “all relevant statutory requirements are rigorously applied and closely monitored by appropriate departments.

The Inspection report also said that Wakefield College “is highly socially inclusive and makes all efforts to remove barriers to learning and contributes significantly to local regeneration”. You can read the full report at www.ofsted.gov.uk.

Our College works hard to be at the centre of its local community, delivering what the District needs and students want. See what we have to offer and come and join us. You won’t be disappointed.
