Course program
This is a 1 year (part-time and residential in Derbyshire) life enhancing course, offering a rarely found combination of personal and professional development with a University Accredited Qualification from the University of Derby.
The experiential nature of the teaching and learning on this course results in considerable personal development for students. It allows individuals to re-evaluate their own emotional responses in relationships both at work and at home and to gain all round feedback of how they are perceived in the context of a group. This learning is done in a very safe, supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere. The culmination of this learning is that graduates of the PGCEE course frequently find greater direction and focus in their professional and personal lives, leading to a higher level of satisfaction and fulfillment in life generally.
The course is suitable for anyone who wishes to learn more about the developing field of Emotional Literacy / Intelligence. It is particularly relevant for people wishing to facilitate groups or teams and those who wish to improve the effectiveness of communication in their workplace. Emotional Education can be applied to any group regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, sexuality or class. Previous course participants include training consultants, teachers, lecturers, social workers, youth and community workers, probation officers, business managers, IT consultants, life coaches, nursing staff, carers, civil servants and engineers.
This course is designed to provide in depth learning in emotional education both at a personal and professional level. The interactive and experiential teaching style is a core methodology for the course, together with the underlying premise that ‘learning is only useful if it enables people to enhance their lives and the lives of others, through the application of their learning’. The course aims to produce graduates who are equipped with not only knowledge but also the inner personal resources to ‘make a difference in the world’ in whatever sphere they wish.
