Course program
Making sure that the right people are recruited is vital for the success of organisations in every sector. Poor selection decisions can have far reaching and sometimes costly consequences. The selection interview is a key component of the R&S process and one that requires a range of skills. It is also essential that recruiters have an understanding of relevant employment legislation and are able to apply this in practice. This course is suitable for anyone who has to conduct selection interviews or be part of a selection panel. It provides a valuable insight into the legal aspects as well as the wider R&S process, along with some opportunity to practise and develop interviewing skills.

•To provide an awareness of legal obligations when involved in recruitment
•To plan and prepare effectively for a selection interview
•To conduct a selection interview in a professional manner
•To use effective questioning techniques to gather required information
•To assess candidates against set criteria and reach fair and justifiable decisions

•Overview of the key stages in recruitment and selection
•The legal aspects and what it means in practice including the Equality Act 2010
•The selection interview – identifying good and bad practice
•Planning and preparing for the selection interview in line with Person Specification
•Getting off to a positive start - establishing rapport and putting candidate at ease
•Keeping the interview on track – using questioning techniques and active listening
•Reading body language signals
•Closing the interview appropriately
•Assessing candidates against pre-set criteria and making fair, justifiable decisions
•Importance of keeping adequate records and essential pre-employment checks
•Practical selection interviews followed by feedback and discussion
•Personal development notes and action plans
