Course program
Each component will reflect the latest thinking from within the sector and reflect the global challenges that we face in ensuring a safe environment to implement programmes.
Sessions include:
Monday 19 March – Legal Liability Guest speakers are Maarten Merkelbach from Security Management Initiative and Ed Kemp, a London Barrister.
Tuesday 20 March – Gender as a Security Issue - Vulnerabilities in insecure environments
Co-facilitated with EISF. Investigating what is gender and what are some ways it can impact the security of aid workers?
Wednesday 21 March – Security & Technology How safe are your IT and Communication systems? Explore methods to maximise the security around your technologies and communication systems
Thursday 22 March – Abduction & Kidnap - Surviving and managing the ordeal
Jointly facilitated by RedR, Jon James & Camilla Carr. Jon and Camilla were abducted by Chechen rebels and held for 14 months. They will share their experiences and how they survived the ordeal. The session will also include Hostile Observation Awareness.
Friday 23 March – Stress & Security Facilitated by Mark Snelling from InterHealth. Includes Psychological First Aid and Team Responses to stress.
The sessions will be facilitated by a combination of RedR trainers, as well as key professionals in the security and humanitarian sector. Participants are welcome to attend as many sessions as they like, reflecting their own or their organisation’s needs.
