Prepares for:On the Understanding Exposure workshop you will learn how to use your camera’s advanced settings to evaluate the light and colour in a scene.
Geared towards:The workshop is aimed at beginners who are looking to build up knowledge of the camera settings involved in recording a technically correct exposure.
Requirements:The Understanding Exposure workshop is aimed at anyone looking to get to grips with the technical side of exposure before moving on to getting creative with it. Although this workshop is aimed at beginners, you will get the most out of it if you have already taken the Camera Settings workshop. You will need a SLR or a compact camera with advanced functions to attend this workshop. If you are not sure if your compact has the relevant settings (e.g. custom WB, metering modes) please get in contact and I’ll find out for you.

Then the Understanding Exposure workshop will put you fully in control of your camera’s menus by teaching you how to decide and then choose the right settings for your exposure. We will introduce exposure settings in a jargon free manner so that you can feel confident with the technical elements involved.

You will learn:

* The differences between under- and over-exposed photos
* About histograms and how they are helpful
* All about a nifty setting called exposure compensation
* How to take a meter reading and use exposure lock
* Using different exposure metering modes
* The importance of a custom white balance
* Exposure bracketing and how this relates to HDR

Think of this workshop as a stepping stone between understanding the basic settings and getting really creative!
